Why Taekwondo?

Studying Taekwondo has lifelong benefits and is designed to be a lifelong martial art. It is one the best forms of aerobic / anaerobic exercises that empowers the person's body, mind, and spirit. Besides the physical benefits many people practice Taekwondo to improve self confidence and to gain valuable discipline. In addition, Taekwondo is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and is the only martial art sport that is part of the Olympic Games. Currently more people study the art of Taekwondo that all other forms of martial arts combined.  


Why study at Tran's Martial Arts Center?


Tran's Martial Arts Center is a black belt school. It is our goal to develop our students into black belts, this is the primary reason for Master Tran's instruction and presence in every class. At Master Tran's level of expertise, this is extremely rare for him to teach and supervise all classes. Currently, Tran's Marial Arts Center is the only Taekwondo school in Ohio teaching the official Olympic Training Center Taekwondo curriculum for our athletes. More importantly though, for parents of kids, we focus on helping parents instill the life skills and values inherent in the martial arts. These include confidence, self-control, perseverance, respect, pride, courtesy and indomitable spirit. We know that as black belts, we have a huge influence on your children and so we use this influence to teach safety skills as well. Fire safety, drug awareness, traffic safety, stranger awareness and many other areas we feel are important for your children to be aware of.


What is the difference between Taekwondo and other martial arts like Karate?


The different martial arts all originated in different countries thousands of years ago, as forms of self-defense. Karate comes from Japan and Kung Fu from China. Taekwondo is native to Korea. Taekwondo is known as a kicking art and emphasized kicks more than other martial arts, making it ideal for improving balance, flexibility, and endurance.  Taekwondo is seen in movies and television as the high flying aerial kicks that are beautiful yet extremely difficult to master.


What types of classes/programs are offered?


At Tran's Martial Arts Center, we offer specialized classes for children, adults, and families. Children classes are broken up into beginner, intermediate and advanced. They are known to improve focus, self confidence, coordination, and grades in school. Adult classes teach self-defense, improve self-esteem and provide a great workout. Our unique family class offers a multitude of benefits plus allows parents a chance to share goals and train side by side with their children.


Can I take martial arts with my family?


Absolutely! Actually, families are finding out that Taekwondo is the perfect family activity. It combines an exhilarating workout with a new learning experience giving something to everyone. You have the choice to be a part of the family class or attend a separate children's or adult's class.


What is important in finding a good martial art school?


When choosing a martial arts school, you are investing in the quality of the curriculum and instructors. You are also choosing the facility, class schedule and atmosphere that you feel best suits your needs. You as a parent or individual want to know that you or your child will leave each class with a lesson to increase their quality of life. At Tran's Martial Arts Center, we are committed to providing the highest quality martial arts instruction empowering our students with valuable skills for daily life and contributing to a safe and peaceful community. Our curriculum is based on the Olympic Traning Center Taekwondo program and all of our instructors are certified under the World Taekwondo Federation which is the largest Taekwondo organization in the world.


At what age can children start?


Taekwondo is safe and fun for students of all ages and physical abilities. Classes are supervised by expert instructors. All students are taught techniques at their own pace. Separating classes according to belt ranking, participating in a thorough stretching routine, having Olympic floor mats, and wearing protective safety equipment are all a part of the Tran's Martial Arts Center environment that will ensure safety to all students.


Will Taekwondo increase my child’s aggressiveness?


Definitely NOT! All children are taught from the beginning that a true martial artist never misuses their martial arts skills. Throughout their training emphasis is put on the fact that being mentally and physically tough, doesn't give the right to be tough with others. Students are expected to be courteous, have integrity, show respect, self discipline, and self control.

What discounts are available?


Tran's Martial Arts Center supports our troops, law enforcement and emergency services personnel. We offer a 10% percent discount to military, law enforcement, EMS and firefighter personnel. We also extend the same offer to dedicated athletes who are willing to train at the national level, families, groups, and college students.


Who teaches the classes?


At Tran's Martial Arts Center, we pride ourselves on having an US Olympian and a former US Olympic Training Center resident as our instructors. These world class instructors were also State and National champions who were taught by Korean Masters. Master Tran's is the chief instructor and is present in every class. At Master Tran's level of expertise, this is extremely rare for him to teach and supervise all classes. Master Tran bases his philosophy of training on inteweaving traditional martial arts with the modern sport style of Taekwondo. In addition to their extraordinary talent and knowledge, you will find them to be friendly, patient, passionate about the art, and great motivators. They are committed in helping you receive the benefits of Taekwondo.


How long does it take to become a Black Belt?

The Black Belt is symbolic of an advanced level of skill including physical, mental and emotional power. The time it takes to study to be at the level of a Black Belt depends on one's commitment and effort. On average, our students will be training for three and half years to attain the Black Belt rank.
